Traffic

In Town Traffic

As a result of the recent rapid growth in our city, the existing infrastructure is now bearing a heavier burden than intended.  As a basic function of city government, it is essential that our elected leaders address this problem.  The key bottlenecks in our road system are well known, such as the Southbound Ave. Palizada off ramp or the streets surrounding Vista del Mar Elementary/Middle School early on school mornings.  We must find a way to make these intersections operate in a smooth and efficient manner.  In addition, we must also find alternate means to reduce the number of cars on our roads.  Revitalization programs should follow the example set by the Playa del Norte proposal, which encourages pedestrian traffic as well as continued access to forms of public transportation such as Metrolink.

Toll Road/241 Extension

The proposed toll road extension is a project that has been in the planning stage since 1981. The intent behind the Toll Road is to relieve traffic on Interstate 5. Whether you support the toll road or not, we all agree that traffic has become a major problem in our community. Now that the California Coastal Commission and the United States Department of Commerce have rejected the proposed 241 route through San Onofre State Beach, it is time for all groups, including the TCA and key environmental organizations to come together and develop a solution that will help relieve traffic and at the same time respect the environment.
