Parks & Recreation

The new developments in San Clemente such as Talega have brought a huge influx of young children in our community. The strain in our infrastructure is easily seen by examining the current state of our city park system and the high level of usage. Our youth sports programs which rely on our city to provide proper facilities for their activities is heavily impacted. In talking with my neighbors, I am told of situations where sports teams must frequently share the same fields for practice at the same time. Game times are either scheduled early in the morning or late on a school night, in some instances occurring outside of our city limits because of the lack of adequate facilities.

The easiest answer to this solution is to complete the development of the La Pata/Vista Hermosa Sports Park and do it before our youth sports must start turning away new kids. The Target Corporation has entered into an agreement to buy the public land across the street from the LPVH Sports Park. Not only will the store generate additional tax revenue to maintain and improve the quality of existing parks, the sale proceeds will fund the completion of Phase IB of the LPVH Sports Park. It is therefore essential that we do everything possible to expedite the city’s review to allow Target to build its store and complete its purchase of the land.
